How to style a vintage robe with modern pieces

ruffle collar robe

Good afternoon,

If you want to find very unique vintage pieces, I highly recommend Parisian flea markets. I recently went to a market in the 15th arrondissement (neighborhood) of Paris. I didn’t have anything specific in mind. I just wanted to find something out of the ordinary. As I walked down the street, a woman invited me to check out her booth. She had a lot of retro clothing from the 70’s in perfect condition. I immediately noticed a blue ruffle collar robe. She told me that she thrifted it 15 years ago in Stockholm, Sweden. I tried it on and liked it even more. The velvet material is super soft and has stretch to it. The robe is warm and cozy without looking too bulky. It’s a vintage size large but it fits more like a modern size medium. I wanted to have fun with this layering piece and style it as a transitional jacket for spring. I bought it for only 3 euros. I'm wearing an ivory ribbed top underneath the robe. It’s a year-round staple that goes with absolutely everything. I thrifted it for 1,50 euros. For the bottom half of my outfit, I opted for a pair of mom jeans with a light blue wash. The high rise accentuates the waist and elongates the silhouette. This rigid denim is made with 100% cotton which means the jeans will maintain their shape for a very long time. I bought it on Vinted for 8 euros.

Since there’s already a lot going on with the velvet robe, I decided to tone down the look with a pair of clear pointed-toe heels (not thrifted). They’re lightweight, super comfortable to walk in and the soft cushion insoles give me extra stability. I bought them five years ago. I have accessorized my outfit with a metallic shoulder bag with a flap. It’s large enough to fit all my daily essentials. It’s originally from the French brand Agnès FLO. I bought it on Vinted for 6 euros. Next, I have layered up a pearl necklace from the flea market (2 euros) with a handmade seashell necklace (gift). And lastly, I added a set of silver rings that only cost me 3 euros and blue nail polish to match the vintage robe.
